Hughes Network Systems has received a potential four-and-a-half year task order to provide broadband communications platforms and services for multi-agency government distance education initiatives.
The company will design, install and maintain a satellite-based audio and video system for a government education and training network comprising of defense, executive branch and federal judiciary agencies, Hughes said Monday.
“With federal agency budgets stretched so thin, distance learning is especially in demand, and it’s well understood that satellite technology is a cost-effective approach to delivering reliable, high capacity network services,” said Tony Bardo, assistant vice president of government solutions at Hughes.
This order was awarded under the General Services Administration‘s Custom Satellite Communication Solutions contract vehicle.
The Government Education and Training Network program uses a geosynchronous satellite to carry out digital video and audio training programs across the U.S. and the Caribbean, according to Hughes.
