Battelle has signed an agreement with the U.S. Green Building Council to find the “real value” of green building design and construction.
The USGBC Central Ohio Chapter has selected Battelle to execute the Green Schools Research Program’s educational component, the company announced Wednesday.
Battelle will use statistical modeling techniques to define whether or not there is a relationship between LEED-certified schools and educational outcomes such as student attendance rates, test scores and discipline.
Ohio has more than 130 publicly funded K-12 green schools, the highest in the country, making it a “unique proving ground” for green buildings research.
“This a fantastic project and I’m happy the Central Ohio Chapter has selected Battelle to execute the research program,” said Ian MacGregor, Battelle Energy & Environment senior research scientist and the project’s principle investigator.
Battelle will also work with a graduate student at the Ohio State University and other students from Otterbein and the University of Dayton on the project.
