Northrop Delivers First E-2D Advanced Hawkeye to Navy; Todd Watkins Comments

northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman is delivering the first E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft with an airborne early warning and tactical data system to the U.S. Navy, UPI reported Friday.

Richard Tomkins writes that the E-2D will be delivered to the Navy’s Airborne Early Warning Squadron 125 at the Naval Station Norfolk Chambers Field this week.

The delivery is part of a Navy contract for more than 70 E-2D planes through 2020.

“This is a revolutionary jump in capabilities. The E-2D serves as the eyes of the fleet. If it’s out there, we will see it,” said Capt. Todd Watkins commander of Airborne Command Control and Logistics Wing.

With a maximum flight speed of over 300 knots and height of 37,000 feet, the E-2D features a radar with a two-generation leap for multi-missions such as airborne strikes, rescue and ground force support.
