Leidos has been named a recipient of the National Veteran Small Business Coalition’s Champions of Veteran Enterprise award for the company’s work to boost contracting opportunities for small businesses owned by veterans or service-disabled veterans.

The company said Monday it assists such businesses through contract awards, training, business and proposal development support and mentorship as part of mentor-protege programs.

“We believe veteran-owned small businesses bring the needed capabilities and subject matter expertise to enable Leidos to better serve our customers and their missions,” said John Jumper, Leidos chairman and CEO.

Withn the past year, Leidos awarded 6.6 percent of its total federal subcontract dollars to service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

The Champions of Veteran Enterprise award is given to prime contractors and federal agencies that meet or exceed the mandated goals for subcontracts awarded to veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.

Leidos and other award recipients were honored during the 2014 Veteran Entrepreneur Symposium on June 17.
