Raytheon Awards Zumwalt Scholarship to the Son of a Retired Naval Officer

Raytheon-logoRaytheon Co. has presented the first Raytheon-Zumwalt scholarship to Harrison Ballard, the son of a retired Naval officer.

Ballard will receive a $20,000 grant and pursue a science degree at Duke University in 2018, Raytheon said Monday.

The Raytheon-Zumwalt scholarship has been established in honor of Adm. Elmo Zumwalt Jr., former chief of Naval operations, to support the families of active or retired U.S. Navy Surface Force service members.

“It was with great pride I learned that you have become the first recipient of the Raytheon-Zumwalt Endowed Scholarship Award,” said James Zumwalt, son of the late Adm. Zumwalt.

Raytheon established the scholarship through the Anchor Scholarship Foundation with $125,000 in educational funding for students pursuing a STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) degree.
