Executive Profile: Horace Blackman, Lockheed VP of Health and Life Sciences

blackman_horace_smallHorace Blackman serves as vice president of health and life sciences for Lockheed Martin’s information systems & global solutions business, where he leads a team of more than 1,900 employees that work with federal healthcare agencies.

His team supports customers such as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services; the Department of Health and Human Services; the Social Security Administration; the Food and Drug Administration; and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Blackman joined Lockheed in March of this year after a stint at the VA in roles such as CIO and director of IT support service for the VA’s central office, as well as senior adviser to the VA’s assistant secretary for information technology and undersecretary for benefits.

Prior to the VA, he spent 20 years in the private sector and held roles such as director of healthcare services for HPTi; management consultant in the communications media and technologies practice at Booz Allen Hamilton; and program manager for interactive marketing at AOL.

Blackman holds an M.B.A. degree in management from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business and a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University, where he double majored in American studies and English.
