UMUC to Honor John Hamre, Steven Shirley at Cyber Gala

award stock photoThe University of Maryland University College will honor John Hamre and Steven Shirley at a cyber event for their contributions to the field of cybersecurity.

UMUC said Friday that Hamre, president and CEO of the Center for Strategic and International Studies and former defense deputy secretary, will receive the Pioneer Award in Cybersecurity.

The university will present the Leadership Award in Cybersecurity to Shirley, executive director of the Defense Cyber Crime Center.

The cyber gala is set to take place at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center on Sept. 12.

James Clapper, director of national intelligence, slated to speak at the event sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, Cisco, Cyberpoint, Deloitte, General Dynamics, Google, the National Cryptologic Museum Foundation, the Blewitt Foundation and ICF International.
