Dan Cloyd, former director of maritime operations at the U.S. Fleet Forces Command, has been named corporate director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance and naval aviation programs at Northrop Grumman.

Northrop said Friday Cloyd will report to Timothy Jones, vice president of aviation and ISR programs, and will coordinate corporate strategies with the U.S. Navy.

Cloyd “understands the global challenges that our customers are facing, particularly in the maritime areas,” Jones said.

The retired rear admiral has served in a variety of leadership roles in the Navy such as chief of staff for the Atlantic Fleet’s Naval Air Forces and squadron commander for the service branch’s F-14 Tomcat fighter planes.

Cloyd spent two years as commander of the naval forces in Japan and served as a test flight officer at the Pacific Missile Test Center.

The Naval Academy graduate holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and a master’s degree in national resource strategy from the National Defense University.
