Chuck Alsup, vice president for policy at the Intelligence and National Security Alliance, has been selected to succeed Ambassador Joseph DeTrani as president of INSA, effective Jan. 1.

INSA said Monday Alsup will oversee the organization’s daily activities, external partnerships, membership and implementation of policies crafted by task forces and councils.

DeTrani will continue to serve as a member of the organization’s board of advisers.

“I look forward to working with [Alsup] to develop opportunities for INSA and its members to constructively engage and support the intelligence and national security communities,” said Letitia Long, incoming chairperson of INSA.

Before he joined INSA, Alsup served as associate deputy director of national intelligence for policy, plans and requirements at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

The 28-year U.S. Army veteran spent six years as an adviser to then-Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John Warner (R-Va.) and panel members on issues related to intelligence and national security.

Alsup is also a recipient of the Defense Superior Service Medal and the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal.
