Magazine Recognizes Day & Zimmermann-Supported Nuclear Plant Crane Installation Project

awardDay & Zimmermann has won an award from Power Engineering and Nuclear Power International Magazine in recognition of a company-supported overhead crane system installation project at an AEP-run nuclear power facility.

D&Z said Wednesday it received the publication’s Nuclear Power Project of the Year award for its work to install a 250-ton bridge crane for the D.C. Cook plant located in Bridgman, Michigan.

“We executed this project without any human performance or safety issues,” said Walt Sanders, a division president at Day & Zimmermann.

The D&Z-AEP team has used a hydraulic turntable and multiple telescoping gantry systems to raise and rotate materials for the nuclear power station’s crane structure.

D&Z noted the platform works to help AEP minimize outage time for its scheduled D.C. Cook plant retrofit activity and cut approximately $18 million in costs that the utility firm would have absorbed into its community rate base.
