Lockheed Gets Manufacturing Leadership Council Awards; Joe Rappisi Comments

Lockheed-Martin-BlueLockheed Martin has received four awards from the Manufacturing Leadership Council in recognition of the company’s manufacturing systems and programs in three categories.

The council recognized Lockheed’s automated drilling and fastening systems integration that uses structured light scanning to develop three dimensional models of the C-130 airframe components, Lockheed said Monday.

Lockheed also earned recognition for the company’s laser ablation of F-35 jet structures for nutplates, a manufacturing technology that replaces the bonded nutplate surface preparation process in Joint Strike Fighter installation.

The company was also recognized in the Innovative Process Leadership category for its metrology and measurement systems development.

Joe Rappisi, vice president for production operations at Lockheed’s aeronautics business, said employees work to field updated processes in manufacturing technology using state of the art tools.

The 12th Manufacturing Leadership Awards recognizes manufacturing firms and leaders that the council says help forge the future of global manufacturing.
