Water and wastewater utility firm American Water has signed a deal with the U.S. Army to serve as a partner of a program that seeks to help military personnel and veterans transition to civilian jobs.
The service branch’s Partnership for Youth Success program seeks to provide soldiers an opportunity to establish relationships and find employment with the program’s partner companies after a career in the military, American Water said Monday.
Susan Story, president and CEO of American Water, said military veterans represent approximately 10 percent of the company’s total workforce and that the firm is pleased to team up with the service branch on the PaYS program.
“Much of the skills and training people receive in the military can be easily applied to jobs in the water and wastewater industry, such as engineering, IT and operations,” Story added.
Since 2000, over 600 companies have signed partnership agreements with the Army on the program that is open Army Reserve and active-duty soldiers as well as Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets who have enlisted in the Army Reserve and National Guard.
