Blackberry has extended a partnership with the American Red Cross to continue support for the nonprofit organization’s disaster response missions with a company-made emergency communication platform.
Red Cross plans to deploy the AtHoc system to almost 500 branches nationwide as part of efforts to facilitate communications between the organization and its staff members, government agencies and volunteers in the event of a critical situation, Blackberry said Wednesday.
“BlackBerry AtHoc helped during our response to Hurricane Harvey, allowing us to quickly communicate with teams on the ground to support people in need,” said Charlie Wooten, director of resource mobilization for disaster operations and logistics at the American Red Cross.
“The alerting system allows us to rapidly organize employees, partners, civilians, and others and disseminate critical and time-sensitive information,” Wooten added.
BlackBerry said more than 75 percent of the U.S. public sector use AtHoc.
