Cyber Vet Melissa Hathaway Voices Concerns Over Use of AI in Law Enforcement

Melissa Hathaway

Melissa Hathaway, former White House cybersecurity adviser, has expressed concerns over the potential use of artificial intelligence by law enforcement officers to foresee crimes, Euronews reported Monday.

“I feel that more and more around the world we are starting to see Minority Report come about,” Hathaway said at the European Cybersecurity Forum in Krakow, Poland.

Minority Report is a science fiction movie that shows how police predict murders and other crimes before they occur through the use of AI.

“So I look at AI and how it is manipulating society and being used for order and being used for what we might consider good,” said Hathaway.

“There is upsides to innovation but who is looking at the downsides of innovation?,” she added.
